Best Ways To Make Your Hair Smell Good All Day
1. Keep combs and brushes always clean
The first step is obvious but essential. Clean your hair’s combs and brushes at least once a week to prevent them from gathering dirt. It is also best to avoid sharing them.
2. Avoid cigarette smoke
This tip is a no-brainer. Smoke is bad news for your hair if you want to keep it smelling fresh all day. If you smoke or are around people who do, your hair will get that awful smokey smell.
3. Maintain your hair accessories clean
Wash any hair accessories including headbands, hairpins, handkerchiefs, hats, and rubber bands. Keep also your pillowcases clean at all times.
4. Working environment
When I was younger I used to work in a kitchen and my clothes and hair smelled of food at the end of the day.
Awful!
If you are in the same situation pick something to cover your hair but first spray a fragrance of your choice inside it.
5. Heat protector
Before using hot tools apply a natural heat protector product.
This will not only keep your hair shielded from the heat but will also ensure that your hair smells good after straightening and drying it.
If you love the smell of your hair’s serum, add a few drops to the heat protector to propagate the smell all over your hair.
6. Leave-in conditioner
Probably you already use a natural leave-in conditioner but if you don’t, buy one with the long-lasting aroma of your choice.
This will prevent your hair from smelling burnt.
For a deep hair conditioning treatment that will also accentuate the smell, leave the conditioner overnight.
7. Use dry shampoo (the lazy way)
For those days when you need to wash your hair, but don’t have the time, use organic dry shampoo. It will revive your hair and give you a lovely smell.
8. Perfume or body mist
Spray your favorite perfume or hair mist on your comb before using it on your hair.
9. Use a hydrating hair fragrance
These days you can buy hair mists with a great range of aromas. I love fresh smells with citrus hints. This one from Amazon has good reviews.
10. A hair scalp scrub
To maintain your hair and scalp really clean and prevent bad smells get into the habit of using a scrub. For a quick DIY hair scrub mix sugar with olive oil or coconut oil. Apply over damp or wet hair and then shampoo as usual.
11. Use a gentle shampoo
Choose a shampoo that is formulated for your hair type and is gentle on the scalp. Avoid using harsh sulfates or alcohols, as these can strip the scalp of its natural oils and lead to dryness and irritation.
12. Use a shampoo that contains tea tree oil
Tea tree oil has antifungal properties which makes it ideal to use on hair and scalp to prevent bad odor. Buy a shampoo containing this ingredient or add a few driblets of tea tree essential oil to your bottle of shampoo.
13. Rinse hair using dry herbs
Boil dry herbs such as rosemary, lavender, or rosebuds for 5 minutes. After washing your hair with shampoo give it a rinse with floral or herbal water. It will give a nice aroma to the scalp and hair.
14. Dry your hair thoroughly
If you wash your hair before bedtime, make sure to dry it thoroughly.
Going to bed with your hair still moist is not a good idea because a damp scalp can promote fungi, which can make your hair and pillowcase smell bad.
