Rose Water Recipe For Skin & Hair (EASY RECIPE)

homemade rose water

Learn how to make rose water at home with this easy recipe.

I’m a big fan of roses and I use them to make my own DIY rose water recipe for the skin.

I’m fortunate enough to have a garden where I grow my beautiful flowers and plants.

I use them to make my own skincare recipes using natural ingredients.

I first started making rose water to use as a toner for my skin, but then I realized it could be used for so much more.

It can be added to food and drinks, it is used to relieve certain health problems and it is widely used in skin care and hair care.

Find more about the uses of rose water below the recipe.

Easy Homemade Rose Water Recipe

Ingredients:

How to make it:

  1. Prepare a bunch of rose petals.
Rose water ingredients

Wash them in water to eliminate any dust or dirtiness.

If you think your roses contain chemicals put them in a container with cold water and a teaspoon of baking soda.

Alternatively, you can add a trickle of white vinegar.

I grow my own roses but I still wash them in cold water to eliminate any trace of dirt.

You can mix your rose petals, for this one I have used red and pink petals.

2. Place them in a pot with distilled or mineral water.

Don’t go mad with the water as too much will end up diluting the rose water.

3. Add one or two spoons of dried rose petals if you want to use them.

4. Cover the pot and simmer until the color fades (about 10 or 15 minutes).

5. Once the color fades, remove it from the cooker and let it cool.

6. Strain and place in a container with a lid.

7. If you want to intensify the fragrance add 2 or 3 drops of rose essential oil.

I have added it to mine and you can really notice a difference in the smell.

Of course, don’t add oils if you are going to use rose water to elaborate food or drinks.

If intended for this purpose, make sure the roses you use are organically grown, and that they haven’t been sprayed with pesticides or other chemicals.

Keep the water in a dark cool place like the refrigerator.

It can last up to 2 weeks if you keep it in the fridge.

You can always add a preservative to make it last longer.

Ready to use!

Since I don’t intend to use the rose water in 2 weeks I’m going to turn it into ice cubes so I can take one and melt it any time I need it.

You could use white roses too but the water won’t have any color.

How to Preserve Rose Water for Longer?

Make sure the bottles or containers you use to store the rose water are sterilized.

Alcohol such as vodka will make it last for up to 30 days.

Add half a spoon per cup.

If alcohol is not your thing adding witch hazel or vitamin E will prolong the shelf life of rose water.

    1. Hi,

It depends on the weight of the rose water and the recommended usage rate of the preservative you are using. For instance, if you are using 1 US cup of water the weight in grams is 236 approx. Germall plus preservative usage rate ranges between 0.1% – 0.5%. If using it at 0.5% you will need to add 1.18 gr of preservative. To be more accurate check this preservative calculator
