These DIY sugar scrub cubes will deeply exfoliate the skin leaving it silky smooth, refreshed, and smelling great.
If you don’t like the artificial ingredients we can find in many commercial scrubs, then this recipe is for you. It is made with natural ingredients that are full of goodness for the skin.
And did I mention that these sugar scrubs are very easy to make and ideal as gifts? Yes, you really have no excuse!

Homemade Orange Sugar Scrub Cubes
I have made 24 solid scrub cubes in total using molds like these ones: 12 orange cubes and 12 lemon cubes.
Ingredients you need to make 12 orange cubes
- 150 gr sugar
- 60 gr clear glycerin soap base (melt and pour)
- 60 gr Apricot Kernel oil or any other carrier oil
- 20 drops of orange fragrance or orange essential oil
- Orange colorant (2 or 3 drops) (buy colorant here)
Increase or decrease the quantities to make a bigger or a smaller batch.
How to make it
Since melt-and-pour soap sets really fast is a good idea to add the oils and the colorant before melting it. Once you have added the apricot kernel oil, the orange essential oil, and the colorant is time to melt the soap.
Place the soap in the microwave and melt it in small intervals, making sure it doesn’t boil.
Stir the mixture very well and spray with alcohol to eliminate bubbles.
Next, add the sugar and stir until it is well incorporated. Pour into the molds and spray again with alcohol.
Wait until the mixture is set and cut in cubes.
I made 12 cubes using two silicon molds.
To make lemon sugar scrub cubes we have to follow the same steps.
Homemade Lemon Sugar Scrub Cubes
Ingredients you need to make 12 lemon cubes
- 150 gr sugar
- 60 gr melt and pour clear soap base
- 60 gr sweet almond oil or any other carrier oil
- 20 drops of lemon fragrance or lemon essential oil
- Lemon colorant (2 or 3 drops) (get colorant here)
How to make it
It is a good practice to add oils and colorants before melting the soap base but if you forget, like I did, it is OK to add them after.
Once you have melted the soap base in the microwave and added the oils and colorant is time to add the sugar. Stir and pour into the molds. Don’t forget to spray with alcohol to get rid of bubbles.
Leave it to set before unmolding. If you are impatient or in a hurry place them in the freezer for 10 or 15 minutes. Cut them into small cubes of similar proportions.
Customize the recipe by changing to a white soap base, using different essential oils and/or colorants.
How to Store Them
You can store them in a clear glass jar or any other container with a lid. Make sure to keep them away from sunlight and heat. You could store them in the fridge if you live in a very hot climate. If they are too firm leave one close to a heat source before using it.

How to Use Them
Please note that the sugar scrub cubes will get firmer over time, so you will need to break them with your hands before using them. Once in the shower make sure they are moist and use your fingers to crumble them. Then rub your skin with it. Your skin will be smooth and moisturized after exfoliating with the sugar scrub cubes.
