This DIY lip balm with Vaseline is one of those recipes you can make in just a few minutes with a handful of simple ingredients.
It’s smooth, moisturizing, and perfect for keeping your lips soft throughout the day.
Once you learn how to make DIY lip balm with Vaseline, you’ll want to make another batch for yourself or to share with friends.
Ingredients
- 1 tablespoon Vaseline
- 1 tablespoon grated Shea butter
- 1 tablespoon white beeswax pellets or soy wax
- 1 tablespoon carrier oil (castor oil, sweet almond oil, or Jojoba oil are good choices)
- a small piece of your favorite lipstick or a pinch of food coloring
How to Make It
Place beeswax or soy wax, grated Shea butter, Vaseline, and a piece of lipstick into a heat-resistant container filled with water.
Wait until all the ingredients have melted before adding castor oil or your preferred oil.
The amount of lipstick or food coloring will decide the lip balm’s color opacity.
Once all the ingredients are melted, pour the mixture into lip balm tubes or containers.
I have filled 5 lip balm tubes and 6 small lip balm containers with the amounts given in the recipe.
I have also made more Vaseline lip balms using different lipstick shades to show just how versatile this recipe is.
By changing the lipstick colour, you can create a range of beautiful tinted lip balms that look and feel completely different while keeping your lips soft and moisturised.
How to choose the best lipstick
- Cream lipsticks blend best.
- Matte lipsticks create a more pigmented balm but can feel slightly drier.
- Sheer lipsticks give a subtle tint.
- Avoid liquid lipsticks because they don’t always mix well with petroleum jelly.
Can I add flavour?
You could use:
- Vanilla extract (oil-based only)
- Peppermint flavouring made for lip products
- Strawberry lip flavouring
Avoid using water-based extracts because they can separate.
Can I add shimmer?
- Cosmetic-grade mica powder
- A tiny amount of cosmetic glitter made for lips
How long does it last?
- Usually, several months if clean utensils are used
- Keep the lid tightly closed
- Store away from heat and sunlight
- Discard if the smell or texture changes
Turn it into a gift
This DIY Vaseline lip balm makes a thoughtful and inexpensive handmade gift.
Pour it into small lip balm tins, mini jars, or empty lip balm tubes, then add a personalised label or ribbon for a special touch.
