DIY Grinch Wreath with Deco Mesh for Christmas

This DIY Grinch wreath is a fun way to add a little colour and humour to your Christmas decorations.

It’s made with green deco mesh, a colourful bow, and a Grinch sign.

The wreath is easier to make than it may look, and I’ll take you through each step below.

Hang it on your front door for Christmas or make one as a handmade gift for someone who loves the Grinch.

Materials

• 18-inch evergreen wreath form
• 3 rolls of green deco mesh (from Dollar Tree is fine)
• Grinch bow
• a Grinch sign that you can either purchase or create yourself
• scissors
• ruler
• hot glue gun

Note: You can use a regular wire wreath form, but it will require more of the green mesh to cover the frame.

How to Make a DIY Grinch Wreath for Christmas

1. Cut the mesh

• Measure and cut all three rolls of mesh into 12-inch sections.
• Try to keep the pieces approximately the same size so the wreath looks even and full.

2. Make the mesh bundles

• Take one section of mesh and roll each cut end inward a few times to help prevent fraying.
• Loosely roll or gather the mesh toward the centre to create a ruffled bundle.
• Repeat with a second section of mesh.
• Place the two bundles together and pinch them firmly in the centre.

3. Attach the mesh

• Position the two mesh bundles on the wreath, then secure the pinched centres by twisting the wreath’s green branches tightly around them.
• Continue making and attaching pairs of mesh bundles around the entire wreath.
• Place them close together to completely cover the wreath frame.
• Separate and fluff the mesh as you work to create a full, even shape and cover any visible gaps.

4. Attach and trim the bow

Position the bow on the side of the wreath.

Wrap the twist tie on the back of the bow around a sturdy part of the wreath and twist it tightly to secure it.

Fluff the bow loops and arrange the ribbon tails neatly over the wreath. Trim the ribbon tails to the desired length, then cut a V shape into the end of each tail for a neat finish.

5. Add the Grinch sign

• Position the sign near the top of the wreath and check that it sits straight.
• Apply hot glue to the contact points on the back of the sign.
• Press the sign firmly against the wreath and hold it in place until the glue sets.
• Optional: for extra support, attach the sign to the wreath frame with floral wire or pipe cleaners.

6. Add the finishing touches

• Fluff and separate the mesh bundles once more.
• Adjust the bow and sign, then spread the surrounding mesh over any remaining gaps until the wreath looks full and balanced.
