3 Homemade Coffee Face Scrubs

A few things about making these face scrub recipes:

# The quantities on these recipes are for single use only. If you want to make a larger amount increase the ingredients proportionally.

# Although I have used non-brewed coffee if you are going to make a single-use you could use brewed coffee grounds.

# The reason for not using brewed coffee grounds for larger amounts is due to the water content in the grounds. The water will introduce moisture into the scrub, causing it to go bad sooner.

# If you make a bigger amount, keep it refrigerated in an airtight container and use it within 3 days (except for No 3).

# Avoid placing your wet fingers inside the scrub, use instead a spoon or spatula to get the amount you need.

# Coffee grounds can clog your drains, so to prevent this, use a sink strainer like this one, for your bathtub or shower.

# If using the scrubs on the face, remember to be very gentle when rubbing them on the skin.

# Can I use them on the body too? Definitely, just remember to make a bigger amount.

To use it, break one cube with your fingers and gently rub it on the face and neck. It can also be used to exfoliate the hands.

Tip – If they are too soft after unmolding leave them longer in the freezer. You could also add more sugar to the mixture and place them back in the freezer.

How long will it last?

As long as you don’t introduce moisture into the scrub it can last for up to 3 months.

6 Skin Care Benefits

If you are wondering if a coffee scrub is good for your face here are 6 reasons to apply coffee to the skin.

1. Reduces inflammation

Coffee has anti-inflammatory properties that work great on the skin.

Its caffeine content coupled with hydrocinnamic acids and polyphenols helps those people suffering from inflamed breakouts.

They bring some soothing effects to ease the pain.

2. Excellent exfoliator

Coffee can be great for exfoliation because of its coarse nature.

The coffee granules help in sloughing away dead skin cells, leaving the skin smoother and brighter.

It can also increase blood flow and stimulate lymph drainage.

3. Minimizes dark circles

If you have some dark circles around the eyes then coffee might be of help.

It increases blood circulation which helps in minimizing dark circles around the eyes.

4. Helps in reducing puffiness

Is your face puffier than usual?

Maybe coffee can help.

When coffee is applied topically it can help eliminate puffiness and even swollen eyes.

Coffee has methylxanthine which has diuretic effects that work on swollen tissues.

5. Effective in reducing pigmentation

If skin pigmentation and brown spots are bothering you try drinking coffee.

This study revealed that consuming coffee could protect the skin from photo-aging and reduce hyperpigmentation.

And, perhaps applying coffee on the skin will reduce their appearance too.

Not sure, but there is no harm in trying.

6. Could help to reduce cellulite

The caffeine content in coffee could help in the reduction of cellulite because it helps in the dilation of blood vessels which boosts blood circulation.
