Are you looking for an easy coffee and coconut oil scrub recipe that you can make in a few minutes?
Then, I got the one for you.
I love making body scrubs and this one is the easiest recipe out of all of them.
It is made with 3 simple ingredients you probably have at home or are easy to find.
I have added a few drops of lemongrass essential oil but this is, of course, optional.
I have made this scrub in the form of cubes because I find them easier to use and more hygienic, but you can make it in the usual way if you prefer.

Homemade Coffee Coconut Oil Sugar Scrub Cubes Recipes
Although I love making coffee (for the aroma) and drinking it (to kick start the day) I don’t use brewed coffee grinds to make my scrubs.
Why?
To prevent the water in the coffee grinds from contaminating the scrub with bacteria.
If you MUST use coffee grinds I recommend putting them in the oven to dry for at least half an hour.
This way the water will evaporate and your scrub will be safe from contamination as long as you keep it away from water.
I prefer to make the scrubs with non-brewed ground coffee.
1. Homemade Coffee Coconut Oil Sugar Scrub Cubes
Ingredients
- 100 gr coconut oil
- one tablespoon of ground coffee
- 200 gr granulated white or brown sugar
- 15 drops lemongrass essential oil (optional)
- silicone molds
This amount fills 2 molds of this size.
How to make it
Combine the white sugar with the coffee grounds.
Stir and, if using, add 15 drops of lemongrass essential oil or another one of your choice.
I have added lemongrass essential oil because it has a strong scent which is great to mask the overpowering smell of coconut oil.
Don’t add essential oil if you enjoy coconut fragrance.
Finally, add the melted coconut oil and stir well.
Spoon the mixture into the molds and place in the freezer for about 10 minutes.
Unmold and cut into even cubes.
And your easy coffee and coconut oil scrub are ready to use.
2. Easy 3 Ingredient DIY Coffee And Coconut Oil Sugar Scrub Cubes

It fills two silicon molds like these ones
Directions
Start by combining sugar and coffee. Add melted coconut oil and stir.
Fill half of the molds with the mixture.
Add the rest of the melted coconut oil over the coffee mixture.
Place in the freezer for 10 or 15 minutes.
Once they are set is time to un-mold.
3. Coffee Body Sugar Scrub Cubes With Coconut Oil
Ingredients
- 70 gr granulated white sugar
- 30 gr coconut oil
- one teaspoon of ground coffee
- 20 drops of bergamot or geranium essential oil (I used both but is optional)
Enough to fill 8 small baking silicon molds similar to these ones.
How to make it
Place sugar in a bowl, and add the melted coconut oil and essential oils.
Stir.
Scatter the ground coffee over the mixture without mixing.
Place in molds and in the freezer for 15 minutes.

How To Use Scrub Cubes
One cube is usually enough for the whole body.
Sometimes the cubes are a bit hard when stored in the fridge.
If this is the case just crumble it a bit with your fingers and then rub it over wet skin in circular motions.
Rinse it off with warm water and shower as usual.
The skin is left moisturized, polished, and with a smooth texture.
Use once or twice a week.
When using products containing oils it is recommended to use a bath mat to avoid slips.
And don’t forget to clean the shower floor after using a scrub with oil.

7 Popular Q&A
- Does coffee scrub clog drains?
It is said that coffee grounds are bad news for drains:
Plain and simple— it’s best to avoid putting coffee grounds down the drain. Coffee grounds are among the biggest drain clogging offenders, along with fats, oil, and grease.
Source
Personally, I never had a problem with coffee grounds clogging the drains, but if you worry about this, you could use a drain grate or mesh to cover the drain’s opening.
Also, don’t go overboard with the coffee grounds, I only add one tablespoon to the entire recipe and use it once a week.
2. Can coconut oil clog the drains?
Again, I have never had a problem using coconut oil in the shower but I only use it once a week.
If you worry, just run hot water down the drain after the use of oils in the shower/bath.
Alternatively, you can use a different oil. I like almond or Apricot kernel oils.
3. Can you use a coffee scrub on your face?
There is conflicting advice out there on whether we should use any type of scrub on the face.
If you want to find out more read this article.
Personally, I like to use scrubs on my face, but I always check that the ingredients used are kind to the skin.
I never exfoliate the face more than once a week and when I do, I make sure to rub with care so I don’t irritate the skin.
Coffee grounds are considered slightly abrasive so I wouldn’t use a coffee scrub on the face, just the body.
4. Is coffee scrub good for your skin?
The immediate benefits you will obtain from using a coffee scrub are softer, moisturized, and polished skin.
Studies show that the antioxidants in coffee protect the skin from radical damage and can delay aging skin.
Also, the caffeine in coffee can temporarily help to tighten the skin.
5. Can I use a coffee scrub every day?
Because coffee grounds are mildly abrasive is not recommended to use them every day.
Once or twice a week is more than enough.
If you like to use body scrubs every day, make one that incorporates ingredients that are gentle to the skin, like oatmeal and honey.
6. How do you preserve coffee scrub?
Scrubs that are made only with oils don’t need a preservative, however, if the coffee scrub is going to be exposed to water you will need to add a preservative to prevent the growth of bacteria.
This is one of the reasons I like to make scrub cubes using ground coffee straight from the bag.
Don’t keep your homemade scrubs close to the water and don’t put your wet fingers inside the jar to avoid contamination.
Is a good practice to store them in an airtight container and in the fridge.
7. Can you use instant coffee in a coffee scrub?
Yes, you can use instant coffee, but you are not going to get the exfoliating benefits of coffee grounds because as soon as you introduce oil into the recipe the coffee will dissolve.
But you can try making the scrub with sugar, instant coffee, and honey instead of oil.
In fact, I made it myself to check the result.
I have used:
- 50 gr granulated white sugar
- 5 gr instant coffee
- 10 gr honey
How to Make Them
- combine sugar and instant coffee and add the honey
- don’t overmix
- place in molds and in the freezer for a few minutes (10 or 15)
- part of the coffee granules was dissolved but not all
These coffee scrubs without oil are more difficult to mix.
They are also sticky and drier than the ones I made with coconut oil, but they exfoliate the skin really well, leaving it super soft. Is best to keep them in an airtight container and in the fridge.
I hope you enjoy all these DIY scrubs made with coffee.
If you like coffee you will love the smell.
Could you use sea salt instead of sugar?
I don’t see why not, but use it only on the body, not on the face.
