11 Bathroom Cleaning Hacks And Tips
To make these hacks work for you make sure you have all the ingredients at hand. Make the cleaning recipes you will use in advance so this way you just clean and move on to the next chore fast.
Don’t forget to label them and write the date too. To give your bathroom a sparkling finish and a gorgeous fragrance use these all-natural DIY cleaning tips.
Let’s get to work!
NOTE: These bathroom cleaning hacks use only natural ingredients, but you need to be careful when handling substances like hydrogen peroxide. Use gloves and make sure you are not allergic to any of the ingredients.
1. Vinegar Tip to Clean the Sink
If you don’t use commercial detergent to clean your bathroom sink try white vinegar instead. You will need warm water, vinegar, and tea tree essential oil.
Combine half a cup of warm water with half a cup of white vinegar and add 15 drops of tea tree essential oil. Spread this mixture all over the sink using a soft scouring sponge and rinse with hot water.
This will give the sink a new look that is dirt and bacteria-free.
Easy and cheap!
Eliminate stains by pouring hydrogen peroxide and letting it act for a few minutes. Then rub it with the scourer and rinse. Hydrogen peroxide whitens and disinfects.
2. Best for Mirrors and Glass Surfaces
The best hack I have found to clean mirrors is using microfiber cloths. You actually don’t have to use cleaning spray. Just dampen the microfiber cloth with some tap water and wring it to expel any excess water.
Use the cloth to wipe down your mirrors and then use another microfiber cloth to dry the mirror if there is any moisture left.
Some microfiber cloth brands come treated with antibacterial agents to help eliminate all the dirt and germs from your bathroom mirrors.
If you are like me, and you love going the extra mile with improvisations, try using strong black tea in place of tap water.
Brewed black tea contains tannic acid that works excellently against grime. Use this hack to clean your glass shower door too.
3. Trick to Clean the Showerhead
This is a great hack to leave your shower sparkling.
For a showerhead free of soap scum and limescale, all you need is a plastic food bag, white vinegar, and some drops of lemon essential oil.
It is a natural and ingenious cleaning method that you can use on more than just the showerhead.
This is how you do it:
- Fill a plastic food bag with white vinegar, add some drops of lemon essential oil, and dip the showerhead into the mixture.
- Secure the bag and let the shower head soak overnight.
- The next morning, all you will need to do is wipe the showerhead with a cloth.
- The results are nothing short of amazing!
4. Toilet Cleaning Tips
Use these toilet tips and tricks to make it sparkling and free of germs.
One cup of vinegar and a quarter cup of baking soda or borax makes a good cleaning agent for your toilet bowl.
Spread the mixture into the toilet and let it fizz first. Using your toilet brush, scrub the bowl and let it sit for 10 minutes before flushing it clean with plenty of water.
Add some drops of your preferred essential oil into your homemade cleaning mixture to get rid of offensive smells. Lemon or Bergamot essential oils work wonders here.
5. Bathtub Cleaning Hack
How to clean the bathtub
An easy way to clean the bathtub is by mixing white vinegar and salt.
Mix two tablespoons of salt for each quarter of white vinegar and let it sit for a couple of hours. Pour the mixture into a container with spray and apply it throughout the bath until the surface is well covered. Rub gently with a sponge and rinse with water to finish.
To get rid of yellow stains in the bathtub make a paste with hydrogen peroxide and bicarbonate. Extend the paste over the yellow stains or all over the bathtub. Leave for 30 minutes and then rub with a soft sponge. Rinse with hot/warm water.
6. How to Clean the Floor and Tiles
To start off, mix one cup of kosher salt, baking soda, and borax to make your own DIY scouring powder.
Now run a bit of water on the floor’s surface to wet it and make it easier to clean. (Be careful not to slip).
Sprinkle the powder on the wet floor and tiles and let it sit for 10 minutes. Scour the surface clean and rinse with hot water.
Dry off the water using a clean mop or cloth.
No Scrub DIY Bathroom Cleaner
This a DIY magic recipe I got from yummymummyclub where you only need 2 ingredients to get rid of scum in the bathroom: vinegar and Down liquid.
To make it:
- place a cup of vinegar in the microwave and heat it for 30 seconds
- pour one cup of down liquid into a sprayer
- now pour the vinegar into the bottle
- shake it!
To use it:
- spray over the dirty area
- wait 10 minutes
- clean with warm water
- wipe with a paper towel or a cloth
This cleaning hack works like magic and you can use it to clean tiles, the toilet bowl, shower glass, the bath, and even the sink.
I was curious about this cleaning hack, so I tried it for myself. I left the sink faucet to gather limescale for a long time. It was difficult not to clean it, but I ignored the urge and succeeded. Phew!
Here are the “before” and “after” images.
So, I can definitely say that it works. The only thing that I did differently is left the cleaning solution for longer because limescale is more difficult to eliminate. I think I left it for one hour, but as you can see it was worth it.
7. Super Clean Shower Curtains
Let the curtain go into the washer. You can use your regular detergent or half a cup of baking soda.
To make sure it washes perfectly, throw in some towels. They will rub against the curtain to remove soap scum and dirt.
You can do the same with bathmats.
8. Remove Mold Hack: Tiles, Shower Trays & Bath
Have you been using bleach to clean bathroom surfaces or to get rid of mold?
If you are not a fan of bleach I have an alternative that I’m sure you will love because is not toxic and doesn’t leave behind a bleach smell in your bathroom.
This is not a quick tip but since you have to clean the bathroom anyway, it is a good idea to leave the ingredients to do their job while you clean the rest of the bathroom or even the house.
Try making your own DIY bathroom cleaner and mold decimator using these easily available ingredients.
The vinegar and tea tree oil kill the mold, baking soda acts as a cleaning agent, and the hydrogen peroxide acts as an antifungal to completely keep mold away.
To make the bathroom cleaner:
- mix one cup of vinegar and one tablespoon of tea tree oil in a middle-sized spray bottle.
- Shake the mixture well and spray directly on the areas you need to clean.
- Allow the mixture to kill the mold for at least half an hour.
In another spray bottle, mix one cup of warm water and two tablespoons of baking soda. Shake the mixture well and spray on the same moldy areas. Leave again for half an hour.
Finally, using a toothbrush dipped in hydrogen peroxide, scrub the moldy areas. Keep dipping the toothbrush into the hydrogen peroxide and scrubbing until all the mold is gone.
Use a microfiber cloth to wipe off the surface and to ensure there is no mold left. This hack works like magic!
Extra tip – How to clean grout on tile floors with hydrogen peroxide without scrubbing.
You need:
- half a cup of hydrogen peroxide
- one cup of baking soda
- a toothbrush
How to make it:
- make a paste with hydrogen peroxide and baking soda
- apply over the grout with a toothbrush
- wait 15 minutes
- wipe with a clean wet cloth
9. Walls and Ceiling
These do not get dirty easily but they sure need some cleaning too.
You can use a damp mop to wipe your bathroom walls and ceiling clean. If you spot some mold on them, use the aforementioned method to get rid of mold.

10. Eliminate Clogging Problems
If you often have clogging problems in metal pipes, there is an easy solution for you.
Pour boiling water down the drains every time you are on a cleaning routine. Once a week should be a good frequency.
Another cleaning hack to quickly unclog the drains is to use Coca-Cola. Just pour a glass down the drain and wait for 5 or 10 minutes, It really works!
I have come across people who discourage others from washing their hair at the sink. The concern here is usually to prevent clogs caused by hair.
I personally recommend purchasing a tub/drain hair catcher. It will help stop hair and other small objects from going down the drain to cause clogs.
11. DIY Bathroom Fragrance
How to keep your toilet smelling fresh all day
Essential oils come in handy when you’re making your own before you go’ spray, or when you need something to keep the urine odor at bay. Just mix a few drops with vinegar and water.
Their great anti-bacterial properties get rid of the dog’s urine smell too. Good essential oils for this purpose are tea tree oil, orange, lavender, lemongrass, rosemary, and eucalyptus.
# One great tip to keep your bathroom smelling fresh is to add a few drops of your favorite essential oil inside the toilet paper carton. While most people prefer using lemon, you could try out other fruity fragrances like grapefruit or strawberry.
If you are into fragrances check the best essential oils to make your home smell amazing.
